The Long Shadow Yorkshire Ripper ITV series filming underway as crews spotted filming in Wortley, Leeds

Television crews have been spotted in Leeds as part of an upcoming six-part crime drama about the Yorkshire Ripper. Filming for the long-awaited show, rumoured to be called The Long Shadow, took place in Wortley, including Granny Lane, The Highfields, Leysholmes and the Western Flatts Cliff Park.

Roads were closed during filming and residents were asked to move their vehicles as the film crew set up base last week. The series has been commissioned by ITV and will retell the horrendous crimes of serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.

The hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper took five years and involved around 1,000 police officers. The series is expected to focus on the police hunt for the killer, who murdered 13 women, and the lives of the victims.

Western Flatts Park was transformed to look like Roundhay Park, with street signs and vintage cars seen on the set. There was also graffiti put on one of the walls in the area saying: "Scothall says hang the ripper!". The team arrived on Monday, filming the drama through Versa Studios in Whitehall Road. Sources confirmed it was about the police investigation into the Yorkshire Ripper.

The series is expected to air September 2022 and cast members include Katherine Kelly from Coronation Street and Gentleman Jack.
