Former England and Arsenal shot stopper David Seaman believes Fabian Schar is like a new signing for Newcastle with the calming influence of Nick Pope behind him. Eddie Howe has made a concerted effort to improve the Magpies' dismal defensive record.
The back five unit is almost entirely new, with the exception of Swiss international, Schar. The Newcastle defender had looked to be on his way out of the door at St. James' Park, with question marks over his future prior to Howe's arrival.
However, since then, Schar has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League, with goals also added to his game.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, the former Arsenal and England goalkeeper said: "He's almost like a new signing because you've got this player who's playing with confidence, defending well and last season they were shipping goals for fun. Whether that's this confidence coming through the manager and the coaching, then getting results, then having Nick Pope behind you.
"He's got that influence of calmness whereas before it might not have been the same. It's the unit. With Nick they've added something to it with that calmness.
"That's what I was like. I was trying to be as calm as anything and you very rarely see Nick losing it and shouting and balling. It's good to see that it's still working."
