Labour leader Keir Starmer has announced sweeping changes to Britain’s political landscape, as a report commissioned by the party was revealed on Monday.

The report was led by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and set out a series of proposals including the headline change, abolishing the House of Lords.

Keir said the proposals include replacing the House of Lords with an elected chamber with representatives from across the country.

He suggested the move could be delivered in Labour’s first term in government, but did not commit to a timeframe.

The Evening Standard's Political Editor Nicholas Cecil explains what the proposals mean and how they might be received.

Plus, Parth Patel from the IPPR discusses the potential benefits of the recommendations, and how changing the political system could affect our services.
