The latest Omicron symptoms affecting fully vaccinated people - from fatigue to vomiting

The Covid situation in Ireland has been yo-yo-ing for over two years now, as new variants bring about surges in cases every few months.

Now that the majority of people are vaccinated against the most severe effects of Covid, surges no longer call for lists of restrictions and lockdowns.

However, the need to isolate after testing positive remains mandatory in order to slow any major spreading of infection among the community.

Health advice remains the same, and that is if you develop any symptoms you should test immediately - but it can be much more difficult to identify the milder symptoms seen in vaccinated people.

Findings published in the infectious disease and epidemiology journal, Eurosurveillance, stated that there were eight key symptoms experienced by the group of fully vaccinated partygoers.

These were cough, runny nose, fatigue, sore throat, headache, muscle pain, fever, and sneezing.

Of those, coughing, fatigue, and a runny nose were the most common among vaccinated individuals, with a fever and sneezing least reported.

Public health experts also added nausea to this list some months ago in vaccinated people who had specifically contracted the Omicron variant.

While being vaccinated protects against the more serious risks of the virus, it is still possible to contract Covid even if you have had both jabs and a booster shot.

Professor Tim Spector from the ZOE Symptom Study App says around 50 percent of “‘new colds currently are, in fact, Covid.”

Experts have also found that there are three symptoms that could act as an early warning sign of Omicron – fatigue, dizzines, and fainting.

Dr Angelique Coetzee, a private practitioner and chair of the South African Medical Association, told Good Morning Britain that fatigue was one of the main symptoms of Omicron when the variant broke out in South Africa.

As the new Omicron variant - Omicron XE - becomes the latest and most transmissible strain of the virus, the public is warned to continue with proper hand hygiene and to take an at-home test if you feel any symptoms coming on - regardless of vaccination status.
