Newport Market has been a huge success since opening last year after a multi-million pound redevelopment. The historic Grade-II listed market reopened in March 2022 after undergoing a huge revamp by developers Loft Co worth between five and six million pounds.
Its long-awaited redevelopment, which was in the works for several years, includes a food court and bar on the ground floor, 70 workspaces, refurbished market stalls, a gym and a rooftop garden. The market has regularly been packed in the months since opening, especially on weekends, with some big names such as Seven Lucky Gods, Burger Boyz, Meat and Greek and Four & Ash serving up mouth-watering dishes and treats.
The market recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its reopening and lots has changed in its first year. Some traders have departed but in most cases have been promptly replaced - here is everything you need to know about the current food offering in Newport Market.

Academy
Academy Coffee is the main coffee and alcohol offering in the market, serving from its coffee and cocktail bar near the Griffin Street side. They already have a number of locations such as Academy@Platform in Cardiff and Academy Espresso Bar and Academy 297 rooftop bar, both in Barry. Find out more about them here.
The Cheesecake Guy
Originally based in Merthyr Tydfil, The Cheesecake Guy has their second stall in Newport Market, where you can get a range of cookie dough, cheesecake jars, milk bottles and waffles. Find out more about them here.
Pie Royale
One of the newer traders in the market, Pie Royale opened in December - but its owners are familiar with the market. The stall's owners originally ran Banh Wagon Street Food in the market, rebranding its initial Aisian cuisine last year to bring a British offering featuring classic and speciality pies and several different types of mash. Flour & Ash
Bristol-based Flour & Ash have earned rave reviews for their wood-fired sourdough pizza since opening on Whiteladies Road in 2014, including from journalist and food critic Jay Rayner. Their stall in the market is their first in Newport, and you can find out more about them here.
Meat and Greek
Sophie and Lisandros have been on the food scene serving up Greek Cypriot souvlaki at festivals and food events across Wales since 2014, and their stall in Newport has proven just as popular. Bab Haus Mex
Another relative newcomer to Newport, Bab Haus Mex brought the first Mexican offering to Newport last year with its enticing offerings of tacos, burritos, loaded nachos and frozen margaritas. The outlet already has a site in Barry's Goodsheds and you can find out more about them here.
The Italian Job
The Italian Job opened back in March serving pasta dishes and Italian-style street food and is one of the newest arrivals at the market. The stall replaced Dirty Gnocchi and is the brainchild of its former chef Dean Lewis, who worked at Dirty Gnocchi for five years. With Dirty Gnocchi choosing to focus on its new venture in Cardiff Market, The Italian Job has become a popular choice in recent weeks with its eye-catching Marco Pierre White mural painted by local artist Consumersmith. The Greedy Bear

One of the most high-profile names to join the market, Bristol-based Seven Lucky Gods offers contemporary Japanese-inspired cuisine like sushi, Asian-themed small plates and drinks from the team behind Hyde & Co, The Milk Thistle, The Ox, Bambalan and Four Wise Monkeys. Other traders
As well as its bustling food market, the traditional side of the market has continued to adapt. While the likes of the Elephant's Ear, Friends in Knead and Rae Barton Fruit and Veg have departed, new faces like Newport Trading Cards, Army of Few and Kash Crafts have joined in the past 12 months, adding to the likes of the Castle Farm Shop, Who Cult donuts and Friendly Neighbourhood Comics.
