The latest COVID-19 case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of each Australian jurisdiction's latest COVID-19 statistics for Wednesday, August 17.

Australian Capital Territory

Two people have died with COVID-19 in the territory's latest reporting period.

There were 425 new cases reported today, with 136 in hospital and two of those patients in ICU, with one person requiring ventilation.

New South Wales

The state has recorded 26 COVID-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours.

There are 2,115 people in hospital with COVID-19, and 56 patients in intensive care.

New South Wales has reported 8,064 new cases of the virus.

Northern Territory

The territory has reported 163 new cases of COVID-19 in the past day.

There are 40 patients in hospital with COVID-19, and two in intensive care.

There have been no new deaths.

Queensland

There have been 17 COVID-19-related deaths reported in the past 24 hours in the state.

There are 439 people in hospital with the virus, with 19 of them in intensive care.

There have been 3,082 new cases of COVID-19.

Tasmania

There are 66 patients in hospital with COVID-19 in the state, with four in intensive care.

The state recorded 487 new cases of the virus today, and no new deaths.

Victoria

There have been 15 COVID-19-related deaths in Victoria in the past day.

There are 518 people in hospital, including 29 in intensive care, with seven of them requiring ventilation.

There were 4,732 new COVID-19 cases reported.

Western Australia

Four people have died with COVID-19 in the latest reporting period.

There are 283 people in hospital with the virus, with eight of them in intensive care.

The state reported 2,405 new COVID-19 cases today.

South Australia

There have been two COVID-19-related deaths in the state in the past day.

There are 210 patients in hospital with the virus, seven of them are in intensive care.

The state recorded 1,458 new COVID-19 cases.

Mutations in the COVID-19 virus continue to pose a risk.
