HBO just dropped the first trailer for zombie apocalypse series The Last of Us season two and Pedro Pascal‘s glorious face is just what I need to get me through Friday.
The official longline for the new season reads: “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
The Last of Us season two trailer
In the trailer, we see our heroes Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) return after the earth-shattering events of season one. We see guitar-playing (it’s giving hoedown throwdown), infected, and our first look at some MAJOR characters that will be introduced this season.
The newcomers include Kaitlyn Dever (Good Grief) as a soldier named Abby, Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) as Dina, Ellie’s romantic interest and Jesse’s ex, Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction) as Isaac Dixon, the leader of a militia.
Then there’s Young Mazino (Beef) as Jesse, a selfless member of the community, Ariela Barer (How to Blow Up a Pipeline) as Mel, a doctor struggling with the realities of war, Tati Gabrielle (Kaleidoscope) as Nora, a military medic, Spencer Lord (Family Law) as Owen, a guy forced to fight and Danny Ramirez (Black Mirror) as Manny, a loyal soldier. They are joined by returning cast members Rutina Wesley (Monster High) and Gabriel Luna (Fubar).
Plus, we get our first look at everyone’s collective mother Catherine O’Hara as a guest star. Her role is currently under wraps but by the looks of the trailer, she may be a therapist of some sort.

Have a peek at the trailer below:
Show co-creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have confirmed there will be some pretty meaty episodes for season two. “The story that we’re telling [in season two] is much bigger than the story of season one, there’s just a lot more going on. It’s a lot harder to produce, but we want every episode to feel like its own blockbuster, to be honest with you,” Mazin told Deadline.
“There’s an episode that is going to be… I don’t know if I would say feature length but quite big. I like generally hitting about an hour, it’s a great length.”
The release date hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s likely it will hit Aussie screens sometime in 2025.
Until then, I will be watching this trailer (and the first season) on a loop like I’m hiding out in a post-apocalyptic world with nothing else to do.
