The Last of Us receives high praise after first episode airs

It's the latest must-watch show and it kicked off this week. The Last of Us - based on the 2013 video game of the same name - takes place 20 years after modern life as we know it has been destroyed.

Following the journey of Joel, a smuggler who has been given the task of escorting a young girl, Ellie, across the now post-apocalyptic America. Starring Pedro Pascal, known for his roles in The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman, as Joel and Bella Ramsey from Game of Thrones and The Worst Witch as Ellie, it is written and produced by Craig Mazin.

The show has a current IMDb rating of 9.4/10 for just the first episode, and there are eight more to come. Viewers have taken to Twitter to rave about how good the show is and how close it is to the game that came before it.

One viewer, @ccmrose said: “The Last of Us spoilers. They’re being so faithful to the game and this is sooo cool.”

While @WICK3D_ added: “The Last of Us episode 1 is the dictionary definition of how to open a show.”

@MightyKeef explained how the simpler approach to storytelling still works wonders: “The Last of Us premier is proof that if you already have a great IP and storytelling, you don’t need to take too many creative risks to make your adaptation unique.”

UK viewers are able to keep up with the show on both Sky Atlantic and Now TV. The next episode will be out on these channels next Monday.
