The Last of Us game sales soar following TV series premiere

The Last of Us video game has seen a dramatic rise in sales following the premiere of its TV adaptation. Since HBO’s post-apocalyptic drama launched in the UK last Monday (January 16), UK sales of the PlayStation 4 remaster have surged 322 percent week-on-week, GamesIndustry.biz reported.

The Last of Us Remastered re-entered the GfK UK Boxed Charts at number 32, almost nine years since its July 2014 release. Its 2022 PlayStation 5 remaster – The Last of Us Part 1 – also re-entered the charts at number 20, with a rise in sales of 238 percent week-on-week.

These figures are based on physical game sales, so the impact of the TV series on digital sales is yet to be confirmed. The Last of US series has been met with overwhelming acclaim since its premiere, with many critics and fans praising it as the “greatest first episode ever made.”
