The "Kylie effect" has already begun to send hotel rates soaring ahead of her 2025 tour

The “Kylie effect” is already starting to send hotel room rates rising in cities visited by her Tension tour next Spring.

Booking sites say they have already seen a surge in reservations for hotels in cities on Kylie Minogue’s concert schedule in an echo of the impact from Taylor Swift’s Eras tour this summer.

The Australian pop star starts her world tour - the 16th of her career - in Perth in February and arrives in the UK for 14 dates in May.

The first will be in Glasgow on 16 May followed by shows in Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham and at London’s O2 Arena where she will be performing on four nights.

Standard ticket prices range from £77.50 to £190.25.

Hotel distribution and revenue platform SiteMinder said bookings in those cities are up more than eightfold for the show dates compared with the same day last year.

That has resulted in average daily rates across all the cities increasing by around 10% from £201 in 2024 to £221 next year.

But at the same time the average length of stay has reduced by over 10% to 1.33 days, with many fans opting for shorter trips specifically to see Kylie.

James Bishop, vice president of ecosystem and strategic partnerships at SiteMinder, said  "UK hoteliers need to be prepared for the growingimportance of event-driven bookings. This calls for dynamic revenue managementstrategies and flexible booking options that can quickly adapt to sudden demandshifts while capturing the business of more discerning guests.

“Encouragingly, UK hoteliers benefiting from Kylie Minogue’s 'Tension' tour have so far demonstrated success in doing just that.”

The impact of the Taylor Swift tour on hotel prices in London, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff was so profound that some economists said it had a measurable impact on the overall official inflation figure.
