The Killers at Ashton Gate - all the roads closed and timings

The first big concerts in three years are to take place at Ashton Gate when US rock band The Killers take to the stage on the pitch at Bristol City’s stadium.

A crowd of up to 30,000 could well be attending, and a huge travel plan is being enacted to get as many people into BS3 from all around Bristol, the West Country and Wales.

And for those attending the concert, and anyone else living, working or travelling in the area, a number of roads will be closed near the stadium, to prevent gridlock and to allow the coaches and buses to get to the venue.

Two main roads around the stadium will be closed.

The first - Ashton Road - will be closed from the junction with Duckmoor Road, next to Greville Smyth Park, from 1.30pm on Thursday, and this will remain closed until 2am on Friday morning.

The second road is Winterstoke Road, the part-dual carriageway that passes the stadium. This road will be closed in both directions from 9pm on Thursday, and from 8pm on the two days of the Elton John concert, on June 22 and June 26. Winterstoke Road is being closed from the slip road off the A370 Brunel Way, all the way to the roundabout system at Ashton Drive. It will reopen at 1am the next day.

Traffic heading from South Bristol to the Cumberland Basin will be diverted around the South Bristol Link Road to the Long Ashton bypass, or over Bedminster Bridge, to avoid the Ashton Gate area, which is expected to be very busy with the concert finishing at around 10.30pm.

A spokesperson for Ashton Gate said: “Pre-event there is no designated drop-off point at the stadium. Roads near the stadium will be closed, have temporary waiting restrictions or be very busy. Fans will find it much quicker to be dropped at least ½ mile from the stadium and walk from there.

"Parking enforcement and police will be patrolling to keep key roads moving. The A369, A370 and A3029 are fast, busy roads which do not permit waiting and are unsafe to stop on – they should only be crossed at controlled crossing points.

"After the event, numerous road closures are in force and the roads nearest the stadium are expected to be extremely busy meaning most fans will find it much quicker to pre-arrange pick-up at least half a mile from the stadium. Please ensure your pre-arranged pick-up point is safe to stop.

"For those wishing to be collected nearer the stadium, Sainsbury’s on Winterstoke Road in the designated pick-up point for private pick-up and pre-booked taxis only. Anyone picking up here must do so in the main car park and keep all surrounding roads and approach roads clear. The car park is expected to be busy and will take some time to clear post-event so please be patient. Police will be positioned locally to ensure all waiting restrictions are enforced and highways kept clear," she added.
