The Kensington Arms listed in national gastropubs top 100

A popular Bristol pub has been named as one of the best in the UK at a prestigious national awards ceremony.

The Kensington Arms in Redland has appeared at number 80 in the Estrella Top 100 Gastropubs - the only Bristol pub to feature in the list.

Run by chef/restaurateur Josh Eggleton and head chef Oscar Davis, The Kensington Arms has made a name for its modern British food and locally sourced ingredients.

Typical dishes on the menu include Beech Ridge Farm duck faggot, spiced jus, pickled chilli, sesame, crispy kale and black garlic; dark brown sugar, soy, and mustard glazed gammon, Cacklebean eggs and triple cooked chips with house pickles, and spiced apple and pear crumble, almond topping, crème brulee ice cream.

As well as a full restaurant menu, the pub serves bar food including an aged beef burger and Sunday roasts.

The Kensington Arms was praised by judges, who described it as a ‘country-style gastropub, offering what it dubs as ‘new-era’ dishes’.

Chefs Oscar Davis and Josh Eggleton were praised for ‘always working hard to update and adapt their menu with seasonal dishes, locally sourced from South-West suppliers’.

Eggleton took over the pub in 2016 with Guy Newell, the former managing director of Butcombe Brewery.

The pub was refurbished and an additional bar added in one of the two function rooms upstairs.

Other pubs in the Top 100 within a short drive of Bristol include The Potting Shed in Malmesbury, The Bath Arms at Longleat and The Longs Arms at South Wraxall near Bradford-on-Avon.
