The temple that named itself after its architect
Most temples in India carry the name of the deity inside. Ramappa carries the name of the sculptor who built it, Ramappa, the master craftsman commissioned by the Kakatiya general Recharla Rudra in 1213 CE. That inversion is the first sign that something unusual happened here, on the edge of a lake in what is now Warangal district, Telangana. The Kakatiyas were precise enough to know that the stone was the miracle, and that the man who shaped it deserved the credit.
