The speculation about where Aaron Rodgers could go — or could he stay? — has already reached a fever pitch, and we’re not even in the full NFL offseason yet.
Still: The idea of Rodgers deciding he wants to leave the Green Bay Packers seems to have some legs as he decides what’s next for him. And everyone thinks one perfect spot for him to immediately contend could be the hapless, quarterback-starved New York Jets.
There were already some good reasons for Rodgers to want to go to New York (although it’s not in his control) and for the Packers to trade him there. Now? He’s got one more: His former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett — who crashed and burned in Denver as head coach — is now the OC for Gang Green.
So everyone had the same thought:
Hmmm!
The #Jets are hiring Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator, source confirms.
Helps their chances of getting Aaron Rodgers.

Hackett and Aaron Rodgers are extremely — extremely — close.
I'd say it's worth connecting dots on this one. https://t.co/zivIt8iz7p

Have to wonder if hiring Nathaniel Hackett is Joe Douglas’ first chess move to trading a ransom for Aaron Rodgers 👀. #Jets https://t.co/3qYZkSho0u

The #Jets have big decisions to make at QB soon. Now, they know who will be running the offense: It's Nathaniel Hackett, who had the NFL's No. 2 offense with Blake Bortles at QB in 2017 with Jacksonville and was GB's OC when Aaron Rodgers won consecutive MVPs in 2020 and 2021. https://t.co/jVxAOgRTYz

2014: 29, 24
2016 (interim OC): 26, 23
2017: 11, 9
2018: 30, 32

Nathaniel Hackett is going to build a whole career off of teams hiring him in hopes of getting Aaron Rodgers only to realize that Aaron Rodgers isn't going to sign with any of the teams that bring in Hackett https://t.co/mSeeY2qoFj

Wonder what team will hire Hackett in 2024 to try and recruit Aaron Rodgers while he spends time mulling his future after his season ends. Right after Sean McVay considers stepping away and Jim Harbaugh puts out a statement he’s returning to Michigan after NFL rumors, of course. https://t.co/xlWyGkIwTE
