The Japan News will present a new design, both in its printed form and on its website, from March 28. A number of elements will be updated, including our masthead, and new features added to further enrich our content. We are confident these changes will help us be an even more convenient source of information in English.
-- New political column
As a symbol of our commitment, we have simplified the design of our masthead, the first change since we adopted our current version in 2013. The layout of each page will also be adjusted for greater clarity and ease of reading.
The Political Pulse column, in which experienced Yomiuri Shimbun reporters will present topical, in-depth reports on Japanese politics, will appear on alternate Saturdays starting April 2.
Content from our partner newspaper The Washington Post will double to two pages every day, providing analysis and discussions of global issues from the perspective of a leading U.S. newspaper. Book reviews and entertainment stories published by The Washington Post will run on Sundays.
In addition, The Japan News will continue to carry articles on Japanese traditional and pop culture, as well as translation contests and other features to help improve readers' language skills.
-- More articles online
The Japan News will also post more articles on its website, including translations from The Yomiuri Shimbun, original Japan News articles and the latest world news from sources such as Reuters, The Associated Press and The Washington Post.
The website will carry articles about contemporary Japanese culture such as anime and manga, and introduce a variety of specialties, including ramen shops. Our new design will allow readers to access Japan News content even more smoothly and quickly, especially on smartphones.
Japan News subscribers can sign up as premium members free of charge for unlimited access to our content. Readers can also take advantage of an AI audio service that reads articles aloud; this function will help English learners improve their listening comprehension.
As part of a special campaign through the end of April, The Japan News will make all its online content fully available for free.
The Japan News URL will change to
https://japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/ at about 10 a.m. JST on March 28.
