According to Complex, the clip, which was originally shared by Florida resident Andrew Posey and then got a huge boost from the OnlyInFlorida Instagram account, shows a middle-aged guy behind the wheel of a top-down convertible. He’s rocking a white baseball cap backward and some sunglasses, just chilling as he drives through South Florida.
This video didn’t take long to explode across social media, racking up thousands of likes and shares as users honed in on the driver’s striking resemblance to Epstein. As it made the rounds, folks online quickly started calling the unidentified man “Palm Beach Pete,” and that nickname stuck as the footage spread like wildfire. The repost even had on-screen text that read, “Epstein out here in South Florida.”
Commenters seemed pretty split on the whole thing
Some were totally convinced, saying the resemblance was uncanny and impossible to ignore. Others were quick to dismiss it, arguing it was probably just a common coincidence among men of a similar age and appearance in that part of Florida, especially when you consider how many people live there. Theories like these can really take hold online, especially when fueled by a compelling visual, even when there’s no evidence to back them up.
Despite all the buzz and the ongoing theories that Epstein is actually alive and maybe hiding out at his Zorro Ranch in New Mexico, reports have confirmed that the individual is a lookalike. It’s a classic case of the internet jumping to conclusions.
This renewed attention comes years after Epstein’s actual death back in August 2019. He was being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on federal sex-trafficking charges when he died. The New York City medical examiner officially ruled his death a suicide by hanging, and subsequent federal reviews have consistently supported that finding.
A report from the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General in 2023 further confirmed that while there were some pretty significant failures in supervision by prison staff, investigators found absolutely no evidence of criminal involvement in his death. So, while the internet might love a good conspiracy theory and a striking resemblance, the official record is pretty clear on this one.
