A new exciting museum exhibition is coming to Cardiff. Hosted at the Wales Millennium Centre, the LGBTQ+ virtual reality experience is the first of its kind, celebrating the artwork and stories of queer people from all over the world and of all walks of life.
Created by Bristol-based XR expert, Antonia Forster, who used the experience from the backlash of coming out as LGBT+ as experience for the creation. Antonia is set to hold a talk about her experience during the tour throughout the whole of the exhibition, which runs from December 9 to 19.
The world’s first LGBTQ+ VR museum contains 3D scans of emotive real-life objects – from wedding shoes to a teddy bear – chosen by people in the LGBTQ+ community, accompanied by their story in their own voice. The gallery showcases 2D illustrations and artwork by queer creators all over the world. Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated world. Guests wear a headset with integrated over the ear headphones.

The LGBTQ + VR Museum recently won a prestigious New Voices Award at Tribeca in July 2022. According to information on the Millennium Centre's website, "spectacles may be worn under the VR headset however it may be more comfortable to wear contact lenses or go without your glasses for the experience."
Antonia, who will also provide the opportunity for questions after the talk, discovered that lack of exposure to queer stories is a strong predictor of homophobia - and created a cutting-edge virtual reality project to address this. The result is the world's first LGBTQ+ VR Museum.
