Italy has placed the first sizeable military order for the Ineos Grenadier from any NATO member, the automaker confirmed this week. Austria's government has signed a separate deal for an armored variant of the same off-roader.
The two contracts mark the Grenadier's debut with sovereign armed forces after years of civilian and specialist law-enforcement use. A trial in the United Kingdom could add a third buyer, though that process is far from decided.
