The impact weight-loss drugs are having on pubs, clubs and restaurants

  • Sixteen per cent of Scottish hospitality venues report a drop in visits due to the popularity of weight-loss drugs, according to the Scottish Licensed Trade Association.
  • The report found that 58 per cent of surveyed firms are in decline, despite receiving a temporary trade boost from the World Cup.
  • Operating costs have risen for 97 per cent of surveyed businesses, with 57 per cent experiencing cost increases significantly above the rate of inflation.
  • The Scottish Licensed Trade Association has urged the UK Government to reduce VAT for hospitality to 10 per cent and called for commercial rates reform in Scotland.
  • The Scottish Government highlighted its ongoing review of business rates , while the Treasury stated tax decisions would be announced at future fiscal events.
