With the finale of The Idol premiering Sunday, some may think the drama surrounding the show is finally over - but it's not.
The most recent drama is how closely the show resembles the life of a certain former Disney star turned pop star.
Selena Gomez and The Weeknd dated for about 10 months in 2017, with rumours that his song "Call Out My Name" is about her and that he might have offered her his kidney when she needed a transplant due to her Lupus.
The Weeknd co-created The Idol with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The show centers around Jocelyn, played by Lily-Rose Depp, a pop star trying to make a comeback with the help of Tedros, a self-help cult leader played by The Weeknd himself.
But some think that the "Starboy" singer has inserted more than just himself into the show.
The similarities between Jocelyn and Selena start at the very beginning. Jocelyn was an actor on a kid's television show as a child before becoming a singer. Selena's career trajectory had her starting out on Barney & Friends as a young child and then starring on Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place.
Both Jocelyn and Selena have their best friends as their personal assistants, Leia and Theresa Mingus respectively.
In 2016, Selena canceled the rest of the shows on her Revival Tour, citing anxiety and depression after her lupus diagnosis. On The Idol, Jocelyn cancels a world tour after her mother passes away.
But one of the most obvious comparisons is when Jocelyn starts a live video where she addresses her fans that she's "not going to let the trauma of my past affect the person I want to be moving forward" and comments on how the press says she's unraveling.
In 2017, the same year Selena and The Weeknd dated, Selena did an Instagram live where she promises to "be the best version of myself" and says people say she's "gone crazy".
Fans have rushed to Twitter to point out the similarities between The Idol's protagonist and Selena Gomez.
Meanwhile others are convinced her high-pressure life in the music industry is based on a young Britney Spears.
Soon after the HBO show started it was deemed "torture porn" and once it did premiere, viewers and critics alike panned it, mostly for "the worst sex scene in history."
Selena has been trying to keep a low profile but was recently rumoured to be in a feud with Hailey Bieber, the current wife of Selena's ex Justin Bieber.
The Weeknd nor Selena have not yet commented on any of the similarities in The Idol.
