Bestselling author Freida McFadden has revealed her real identity as Sara Cohen, a doctor, saying she is “tired” of maintaining the secrecy.
Cohen initially adopted the pseudonym to prevent her writing career from conflicting with her medical profession, though she has since significantly reduced her clinical work.
Her breakthrough came with the 2022 domestic thriller The Housemaid, which sold over two million copies and spent a year on The New York Times bestseller list.
The Housemaid was adapted into a successful film starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, grossing nearly $400m worldwide, with a sequel currently in development.
Cohen will continue to write under the Freida McFadden pseudonym, dismissing speculation that her books are AI-generated or written by multiple individuals.
