Allan Saint-Maximin has "a chance" of facing Aston Villa this weekend after returning to training. The French winger has not played since the start of October before he suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury initially picked up in August.
Howe is hoping that his return will not result in any further issues. But when asked about Newcastle's Villa clash he was hopeful of seeing the star back on the field.
Howe said: "Yeah there's a chance. We will see how training goes today. He has made really good progress and I am really pleased with how he's attacked he's rehab and the work he's put in. So there's an opportunity to get Maxi fit and available."

Howe then gave more depth on how Saint-Maximin recovered from the first hamstring injury at Wolves but was then out injured again after a brief cameo against Brentford in the 5-1 win.
Howe added: "Maxi is in a really good place. I think the setback he had recently with his hamstring was a huge blow to him.
"But it almost reset him mentally. It was like (he thought): 'Right I have really got to get myself right and get my recovery right'.
"So I think I have this time, a steely determination to get back fit and get back in the best condition possible. He's been having really intense treatment, three sessions a day, two at the training ground and one at home.
"So real dedication from him in his profession to try get back as quickly as possible for what is an intense period of games now between the break. So I can't speak highly enough of how he's attacked this stage of rehab."
