The Hoppings set to take contactless payments for rides at Town Moor this year

The Hoppings looks set to accept contactless payments for rides this year, in a big break for tradition for the famous funfair.

There was great disappointment in 2020 when it was confirmed that the coronavirus pandemic had thwarted plans for the fair to take up residence at the Town Moor that year, as it had done for decades before. Hopes were high that there would be an event last year, with plans made for an autumn Hoppings but, sadly that was also cancelled.

That means that when The Hoppings does finally return to the Moor on Friday, June 17, it will be for the first time in three years. Over the past few weeks, The Hoppings rides have been confirmed for this year, as well as what's new for this year and The Hoppings opening times.

Speaking of the all important rides, they are set to cost between £1 and £5 a go this year and you might not need to be heading up to the fair with notes and loose change in your pockets (which will inevitably come out mid-ride!) as organisers have confirmed that contactless card readers will be in operation on the Town Moor for 2022.

Does The Hoppings accept contactless payments?

A post on The Hoppings website reads: "Most rides will have the ability to take card/contactless payment."

This bring The Hoppings in line with many other venues and events post-Covid, with a number of venues in the area now completely cashless.

Will there be cash points at The Hoppings?

Yes, as well as ride operators accepting contactless payments, The Hoppings will introduce a number of on site cash points for this year.
