The hike in Scotland named one of the best in the UK for a walk this spring

A Scottish hike has been called one of the best in the UK to embark on this spring.

Now that March has truly begun, people across the country will be looking to head out into nature and make the most of the less wintry weather. Fortunately, in Scotland you are never too far from a scenic walking or hiking route.

All that choice can make it difficult to know where is worth heading. To help, outdoor experts at Blacks have have put together a list of their six favourite walks throughout the UK.

Among the routes featured in the experts' list is Aonach Eagach along the northern edge of Glen Coe. Situated in the Scottish Highlands, the large mountain ridge stretches for several miles.

The ridge features two Munro summits: Sgùrr nam Fiannaidh and Meall Dearg. The former has a peak of 967 metres, while the latter has a peak of 952 metres.

Aonach Eagach is regarded as one of the most difficult ridges to traverse in the UK, and requires experience ascending steep terrain. It is also not recommended for those afraid of heights, as there are many sharp drops that will leave all but experienced scramblers trembling.

In addition, there are many exposed sections that make the ridge dangerous for those who do not know what they are doing. It is recommended that anyone embarking on the route give themselves plenty of time to complete it in daylight.

Those who are suitably equipped for the tough mountain ridge, however, will be rewarded with spectacular views across Glencoe. The sense of accomplishment you will feel looking out across the ridge will make the experience worth the effort.

More information can be found on the British Mountaineering Council website.
