I tried the hidden Halloween spa where you bathe in 'blood', drink a spooky mocktail and are turned into a pumpkin

Typically Halloween is linked to trick or treating, haunted houses or pumpkin picking - but not usually a spa experience. For 2022 Lush Cardiff is launching an exclusive bathing experience in its hidden spa.

Only available in the Cardiff store, we headed along to this spooky spa to try it out. From the street below, the Cardiff branch of the beauty product chain looks like any other Lush store, packed with skincare, hair care, and bath bomb goodies.

However, Lush Cardiff is home to a hidden spa on its upper floors and for a limited time you can try out the Lord of Misrule spa experience. After entering Lush and filling my senses with the scents of all their different products, we were taken up to the spa. Here they have different treatment rooms - one of which is accessible for those with mobility issues - where you can enjoy spa or bathing treatments. First I was taken through the spooky products I would be enjoying which included a choice of facemasks, Pumpkin Eye Pads, Ghost In The Dark Soap, and the Lord Of Misrule bath bomb.

I enjoyed learning about the products (WalesOnline/Rob Browne)

I opted for the Mr Pumpkin Face face mask, to fully get into the Halloween spirit, and really enjoyed learning about the different products and how they would help my skin. The Mr Pumpkin Face mask is packed with ground pumpkin seeds to help exfoliate your face and the Ghost In The Dark Soap is made from citrus-sweet lemongrass and fair trade organic cocoa butter to moisturise your skin.

After learning about the products I headed upstairs to the spa/spooky lair which was decked out for Halloween. A roll-top bath sat in a neon-coloured area that was lit with spooky purple and green lights. Fake ivy also dangled from the walls.

My chosen products were laid out ready for me to use and a soundtrack provided by the in-house band, Lush Fresh Handmade Sound, added to the spooky yet relaxing vibe. First I added the Lord Of Misrule bath bomb into the bath, the water of which was a perfect temperature, neither too hot or cold.

The bath bomb fizzed and spun out green bubbles and then later a blood red colouring, which could have been a bit gruesome but it was enchanting to watch. You are provided with a robe and I opted to wear my swimming costume in the bath however the experience is self-led and completely private so you can enjoy a dip without one if you prefer. I enjoyed bathing in the red waters and relaxing with the spicy herbal blend of patchouli and black pepper oil from the bath bomb filling the air.

Next I tried the Mr Pumpkin Face face mask, which was easily my favourite product. Smelling like pumpkin, earthy, and woody, you are provided with a brush and mirror to help you apply the face mask.

The Mr Pumpkin Face Mask was my favourite product (WalesOnline/Rob Browne)

I love a facemask and this one was thick and smoothing, instantly sinking into my face. It didn't feel too thick or heavy on my face and was a great consistency.

To top off the look, and be completely transformed into a pumpkin, I added the Pumpkin Eye Pads which instantly began to moisturise my eyes and the skin around them. In just 10 minutes I had undergone a spooky transformation with Lush and turned into a pumpkin.

All the products were great to use (WalesOnline/Rob Browne)

After washing off the Mr Pumpkin Face face mask, with the cleansing mits provided, I enjoyed relaxing in the bath - I could have stayed in there for hours in all honesty. I moisturised my body with the Ghost In The Dark Soap, which felt light and gentle, and once out of the bath left my skin feeling silky smooth.

Throughout the whole experience Lush provided everything and anything, nothing was lacking. From a headband to use in the bath, to a mirror to help apply the face mask to moisturiser and body spray to use after I felt very well catered for.

I enjoyed a spooky mocktail at the end (WalesOnline/Rob Browne)

The experience finished with a spooky mocktail, that you mix and make yourself using test tubes, which was an indulgent popping candy blood orange beverage. The drink at the end was a lovely touch and the perfect way to finish the bathing experience.

I left Lush with my face feeling the full effect of the Mr Pumpkin Face face mask, it was glowing, radiant, and felt refreshed, my body smooth from the Ghost In The Dark Soap and feeling fully relaxed. It is definitely a fun experience and one I would recommend if you fancy doing something different yet still spooky this Halloween. You can book the Lord of Misrule bath experience by calling Lush Cardiff on 02920399089.
