Dave Myers has shared praise for his friend and Hairy Bikers co-star Si King over his support during his cancer treatment. Back in May, Dave revealed the news of his cancer diagnosis on an episode of the pair's Agony Uncles podcast and said that he didn't want to 'hide under a rock', but will be away from work.
The 64-year-old asked fans to 'respect his privacy' as he undergoes treatment. "But look, the prognosis is okay, I’m going to be fine," he added at the time. While he hasn't specified the type of cancer he has, he did say earlier this year he was undergoing chemotherapy.
Early last month, Dave said he was 'doing alright' but shared one thing he's missing during his gruelling treatment - his beard. "It's the beard I miss though. I was born with that beard," he admitted during the Confidential Corner segment of the podcast. 'Posh Tash', who is the podcast's 'voice of reason', then asked Dave if he missed fiddling with his facial hair, getting food stuck in it, or combing it.
Dave responded: "I just miss having my beard, the feeling of it. Because your skins different and all peachy. No, I want my beard back – I’m alright with my hair! I think the bald head and beard is the way to go for a biker as you’re getting on."
He has now given a fresh update on his progress but started by hailing Si, 55, as "indispensable" and said he has been accompanying him to hospital appointments, as well as cooking him meals to store in his freezer. Dave told BBC Radio Cumbria : "The very first week before all the treatment started you have a week of going round hospitals, it was enormous pressure on Lil my partner, but Si was the one who drove me around for a week."
Later, offering an update on his condition, he said: "I’m doing alright, I wouldn’t say I was the best I’ve ever been, I’ve had quite a lot of chemotherapy but it’s working. The numbers are going in the right direction, my hair is growing back, my beard is coming back."
Dave also thanked and praise those sending "encouraging" messages online amid his health battle, particularly when it came to the loss of his hair during the second round of chemo. "It’s encouraged me that it’s time to stick my head above the parapet a bit."
