The Great British Bake Off announces return date and it's just days away

The Great British Bake Off has confirmed it's returning to our screens on September 13.

Fans of the Channel 4 baking show will be delighted that Bake Off will return in under two weeks, as a whole new round of amateur bakers head to the tent. Judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith, and presenters Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding, will be back in the show’s famous tent for another series of signature, technical and showstopper bakes.

Alongside a picture of the group posing together during filming, Channel 4 wrote on Twitter: "In knead of some good news? Here’s a little something ... The Great British Bake Off is back on your screens on Tuesday 13th September at 8pm! #GBBO."

Buzzing fans took to the comments to share their excitement. One wrote: "OH MY GOD GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE AHHHHHHH I CANT WAIT!" Someone else joked: "Much kneaded light entertainment"

Another said: "Aah, Our hearts are a-glaze! The mas-sieve news we've been kneading to hear! All-dough it's taken a while, loaf is good once more & batter days are here again! Muffin compares to the style & ganache brought by the #GBBO gang. Wel-crumb back & don't dessert us again.."

For the first time ever, Bake Off will have just one host (Channel 4)

This series will see the return to the infamous tent after two years away because of the Covid pandemic, which put huge restrictions on filming and meant everyone had to operate in a bubble.

"All the team, particularly Prue [Leith], found it really tough not being able to go home each week," a source told The Mirror, "They are delighted that this year it will go back to the way it was, when they filmed at weekends and could leave during the week."

Ahead of the new series, Paul has warned the new set of amateur bakers. "You need to be very brave to do Bake Off as you have to come in front of Prue and myself and be timed," he shared.

"It takes a lot of bottle to go into that tent and bake. The timing is the hardest part to deal with. I will walk away if they say, ‘Please go away’ but it is incredible to watch them turn from amateurs to professionals. I used to be involved with the auditions but now we can get 20,000 people auditioning and I can’t eat that much cake so I wait until I see them in the tent. I would rather see them fresh in the tent."
