The Gate has announced a list of venues due to reopen this week after the complex was suddenly evacuated almost a month ago.
Diners and cinemagoers were asked to leave the venue on Thursday, May 5, and notices were fixed to the entrance of The Gate informing the public that the venue had closed due to "unforeseen circumstances".
On May 10, The Crown Estate, which has owned The Gate since 2012, explained that the temporary closure was "to enable the team to carry out further testing of the internal mechanisms that prevent the spread of a fire, to ensure these mechanisms meet the highest standard of fire safety".
A further update was released by The Crown Estate on May 16, explaining that The Gate is expected to remain closed for "at least four weeks" to allow for an upgrade to some of the systems and measures, "to ensure we continue to operate at the highest safety standards".
However, now The Gate has announced that a number of its venues will reopen this week.
Cineworld cinema, Starbucks, and The Gate car park have already reopened to customers. In a statement shared on Twitter on Saturday, May 28, The Gate Newcastle said: "We are pleased to announce that from 4.45pm today both Cineworld and the Gate Car park are reopening joining The Mayfair, The Hustle and The Lofts. More venues will be opening over the next few days, and we will keep you posted."
A further statement shared to the venue's social media on Sunday, May 29, said: "We are pleased to confirm that @cineworld and #Starbucks are now open at The Gate."
Currently, five additional venues - Asper's casino, Pizza Hut, YuMe World, The CTRL Pad and The WonderBar - are expected to reopen this week as the complex gradually reopens to the public. Further announcements are expected to follow.
Pizza Hut and YuMe World and The CTRL Pad will reopen from Monday, May 30. While Asper's casino will reopen from 7pm on Wednesday, June 1, and The WonderBar will open from 10am on Thursday, June 2.
In a statement shared to Twitter, The Gate said: "We are pleased to confirm that more of our venues will be reopening over the next few days as follows: Cineworld open today 12noon & from 1pm next week, Starbucks open inline with Cineworld, YumeWorld & Pizza Hut open Monday, Aspers Wednesday, 7pm -The WonderBar, Thursday, 10am."
The venue later announced that The CTRL Pad had now joined the list of open venues.
