PUNE: Muttiah Muralitharan acknowledges that Sri Lankan cricket has gone "backwards" when it came to developing its talents, but warned the Indians that "the game will bite" if they under-estimated the islanders when the two sides clash in the World Cup in Mumbai on Thursday.

The 51-year-old spin legend's ODI career ended with a humbling loss to Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side in the 2011 final at the Wankhede stadium a dozen years ago.
