The French manicure has never really left, but 2026 has turned it into something closer to a design template than a fixed look. Where the classic version relies on a stark white tip over a sheer pink or nude base, the current wave of celebrity manicures keeps the shape and swaps nearly everything else, color, finish, tip width, texture, while still reading unmistakably as French.
Micro French is one of the clearest examples of that shift. Instead of the traditional half-moon-width tip, the line is pared down to a thin edge, a look nail artist Betina Goldstein has described as especially suited to short nails, since it keeps the design light and adds room to play with color or fine detail rather than covering more of the nail. Margot Robbie has worn a version of this pared-back tip using a soft, silver-toned polish in place of stark white, trading contrast for a quieter, more monochromatic effect.
