Tam McManus has highlighted four key areas he feels Hibernian must look to improve with a fresh cash injection from Bill Foley.
The former Hibs attacker feels Nick Montgomery needs to make signings this January to help his old side cement third spot in the Premiership.
The Englishman has lost just three league games since taking over at Easter Road in September. They currently sit sixth in the table, level on points with fifth place Kilmarnock. St Mirren are only two points ahead in third.
It was recently confirmed that US businessman and Bournemouth owner Bill Foley was on the verge or completing his minority stake in the club. This in turn will enable the billionaire to heavily invest in the Edinburgh giants.
While this may not be done in time for January, McManus feels a goalkeeper, centre-backs and a No.10 should be the priority for Montgomery and his recruitment department.
Speaking in the Daily Record, he said: "For me, he needs to find a goalkeeper who will put real pressure on David Marshall. Don’t get me wrong, big Marsh has been playing well in recent weeks but isn’t getting any younger and I’ve seen nothing to suggest Jojo Wollacott, his understudy, is a long term solution to the No 1 position.
"I also believe Montgomery needs two centre halves more capable of playing out from the back the way he wants his team to do it. It’s a brave philosophy that requires players who are more comfortable with the ball at their feet than Rocky Bushiri, Paul Hanlon and Will Fish, so I think that needs to be addressed.
"And he could do with a proper playmaker, a No 10 to find the passes that will release the good forward players like Elie Youan, Jair Tavares and Martin Boyle. I know Joe Newell and Dylan Levitt can pick a pass, but I don’t think Hibs have had a proper No 10 since Scott Allan, and that needs to change."
