"These things are medicine," he said.
The first food Dr Hyman recommended was cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, cabbage. He advised eating 'at least a cup or two' of them every day.
The doctor also swore by eating extra virgin olive oil, which he said had been 'shown to contain all sorts of anti-inflammatory compounds'.
"You need to make sure you get lots of good fats and olive oil is a great way to do it," he explained. "It should be your staple fat."
Nuts are the third food that Dr Hyman touted. "Nuts are so important," he explained. "They've been show to extend life, to cause reduction in diabetes, to increase health span, lifespan. They're full of minerals, fat, protein, fibre. They're one of nature's super foods."
Another important food is berries, which Dr Hyman hailed as a "great source of antioxidants".
He also advised drinking green tea every day, although he admitted it is technically not a food.
'It contains all of these phytochemicals [and] catechins, which have been shown to activate longevity switches and pathways in our body that keep us young [and] keep us healthy,' the doctor explained.
Dr Hyman noted that in Ikaria, Greece, a so-called blue zone region that has one of the longest-living populations on earth, they drink wild sage tea.
