  • The 38-year-old now shares the record with Germany's Miroslav Klose , surpassing Brazil's Ronaldo .
  • This marked Messi 's first World Cup hat-trick and confirmed his fifth tournament with a goal, a feat also achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo .
  • Kylian Mbappé is also nearing the record , currently on 14 goals, setting up a potential rivalry for the overall top scorer title.
  • As such, the overall top scorers in Fifa Men’s World Cup history are now as follows: Miroslav Klose ( 16 ), Lionel Messi ( 16 ), Ronaldo ( 15 ), Gerd Müller ( 14 ) and Kylian Mbappé ( 14 ).
