The eye-watering cost of a World Cup final ticket

  • Fifa is charging up to $11,000 (£8,333) for World Cup final tickets, marking a significant price increase since December.
  • The “last-minute sales phase“ saw the cheapest final tickets rise to £4,386 and was affected by technical glitches and long queues for fans.
  • Fan organisations, including the Football Supporters' Association, have criticised the “ridiculous” and “most expensive” ticket pricing in World Cup history.
  • Dynamic pricing will be applied to general sale tickets, and Fifa will operate a resale market allowing mark-ups and taking a 30 per cent cut.
  • Football Supporters Europe and Euroconsumers have lodged a formal complaint with the European Commission over Fifa's “aggressive and exploitative ticketing policies”.
