An empty bedroom may look harmless, but it still consumes part of the household budget. The lights can stay off, and the bed can remain perfectly made, yet that square footage still needs heating or cooling, maintenance, cleaning, insurance, and eventually repairs.
That makes an unused room an interesting little financial puzzle. The question is not whether the room costs money, because it does, but how much of the home’s total cost actually belongs to that forgotten corner of the house. Once the numbers get separated, a large home can start looking very different from the cozy retreat it seemed to be when the moving boxes arrived.
