Horror/Thriller movies continue to have a moment in 2024, as The Deliverance gets in line to join other 2024 new movies like The Watchers, A Quiet Place: Day One and Longlegs.
Inspired by a true story, The Deliverance follows the harrowing tale of a mother as she moves her children into a new home for a fresh start only to find herself battling occurrences of the supernatural realm. The Deliverance debuts in select theaters in the US on August 16 before premiering on Netflix in both the US and UK on August 30. Here is the synopsis of The Deliverance as spelled out by Netflix’s Tudum:
"Ebony Jackson, a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons, moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. But when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children. Inspired by a true story, The Deliverance is directed by Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels (Precious) and stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Mo’Nique in a genre-defying take on darkness, possession, and finding a higher power."
The Deliverance cast
As previously mentioned, The Deliverance has an all-star cast featuring highly esteemed actresses. At the forefront are Andra Day and Glenn Close. Day is a Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee for her film The United States vs. Billie Holiday, and she’s also starred in things like We the People and Exhibiting Forgiveness.
Close is an Emmy-winning actress for her roles in Damages and Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story, an eight-time Oscar nominee for projects like Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons and she recently starred in Heart of Stone and The New Look.
Day and Close are joined by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Mo’Nique. Ellis Taylor received an Oscar nomination for her performance in King Richard and stars in the new film, The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat. Mo’Nique won an Academy Award for Precious and was recently in another horror/thriller, The Reading.
