The new trailer for part one of The Crown season six has been released, depicting Princess Diana’s final months before her untimely death.
Peter Morgan’s historical drama series based on the British royal family will come to an end with its sixth season, which is being split into two parts. Part one will be available on Netflix from 16 November.
On Thursday (26 October), the new trailer for part one of season six was released online, and teases episodes that revolve around the end of Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Charles’s (Dominic West) marriage.
The trailer opens with scenes showing Diana looking forlorn as she plays the piano. She is also seen sitting sadly on a pool diving board, and then entering a private plane amid the flashing of paparazzi cameras.
“I don’t know how I ended up here, dashing around and losing sight of myself in the process,” her voice says in the background. “I think that’s been the story of my whole life.”
Season six will include a large focus on Diana’s death in 1997, aged 36. While on a trip to Paris, the Princess and her partner, Dodi Fayed, sustained fatal injuries in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.

A brief scene in the trailer shows her holding a handwritten note, presumably from Dodi, that reads: “Paris next week?”
Though a scene depicing Diana’s death is not shown on-screen in the trailer, the clip nods to the aftermath of the event, with Charles seen comforting his sons after receiving a phone call in the middle of the night. The season also promises to delve into the impact Diana’s death has on the public and their perception of the royal family.
“Set against a background of raw emotion, the royal family remains silent,” the voice of a broadcaster says.

The Queen, played by Imelda Staunton, then asks: “What do people want from me?”
“For you to be mother to the nation,” Charles responds.
In response to the two-minute teaser, fans of the programme have expressed their anticipation for its return, as well as concern about the difficult content that the season will tackle.
“We all know what’s gonna happen next. I’m just not ready!!” read one social media comment.
Others have commended the performance of Debicki as the late Princess of Wales, following on from Emma Corrin’s portrayal in seasons three and four.
“Elizabeth Debicki truly deserves all the appreciation for playing Diana!” one fan wrote. “Emma Corrin slayed as the younger Diana too and now she’s carrying the torch.”
Earlier this month, the series creator Peter Morgan responded to criticism of a scene from the final season that is said to show Diana as a ghost.
“I never imagined it as Diana’s ‘ghost’ in the traditional sense,” Morgan told Variety. “It was her continuing to live vividly in the minds of those she has left behind.”
