Elizabeth Debicki is urging followers of The Crown to stop complaining about storylines the hit show is running in the upcoming series.
The hit Netflix show has found itself under pressure lately after a number of tough storylines faced criticism. It's caused bosses to include a disclaimer on the latest trailer as the drama intends to showcase the death of Princess Diana.
Due to complaints, the streaming giant has tagged its trailer, saying the show it a "fictional dramatisation... inspired by real events'.
And the actress who plays the late royal has backed up the new tag and told fans to "move on" from the debate as she reiterated the scenes are simply an interpretation of events.
Elizabeth, 32, set to feature as Diana in series five of the show, was speaking to Radio Times, telling the publication: "I respect people’s points of view and I, being an actor in the show, understand the nature of what the show is.
"It was always very clear to me that one can never know what happens behind closed doors and that a writer is interpreting what may have happened.
"Now the disclaimer is up there, we can maybe stop talking about it and move on. If that’s helpful for certain people, so be it, and now the conversation can be returned to the creative endeavour of what the show is."
She continued to explain that due to the room for interpretation, the show has been a huge success, calling it a "good drama".
The new series is set to air from next week and focuses on Diana's split from the then Prince Charles. Among notable scenes will be the princess' decision to wear what was dubbed her "revenge dress".
The outfit, worn to a Vanity Fair party in June 1994, was a stunning off-the-shoulder silk design produced by Christina Stambolian.
Diana wore it on the same night a documentary was aired which saw Charles admit he had been unfaithful with Camilla.
Other lines set to be covered in the series include the "tampongate" phone call between Charles and Camilla which was taped by an amateur radio enthusiast and linked to the press. The moment saw the couple's intimate conversations recorded and Dominic West, who plays Prince Charles on The Crown, admits he feels a "deep sense of sympathy" with the new king over the situation.
Series five of The Crown lands on Netflix on November 9.
