Disadvantaged or isolated communities are to be helped to avoid becoming "cash deserts" by the Co-op.
The Manchester-headquartered convenience retailer is to offer free ATMs in every store where possible. If added that if it can't do that it will offer free cashback services or Post Office counter withdrawals where customers are dependent on the payment method.
The Co-op said its commitments would counter High Street bank closures, removal of free ATMs and the rise of cashless retailing.
