A Japanese restaurant in Glasgow is not only proving popular for its Izakaya-style food offering but is also impressing parents with its hidden soft play area that's ideal for keeping the kids entertained.
Mikaku, which opened on Queen Street in 2019, has not only won over the city's diners with its stylish interior, hip dishes like gyoza dumplings and chicken karaage, as well as its expertly-made cocktails, but it's also been getting glowing reviews from families looking to dine somewhere a little different.
The chic restaurant has been gaining traction on social media sites TikTok and Instagram thanks to parents gushing about the fact they are able to enjoy a meal in peace while their kids have fun in the play area.

Speaking about the play area when they first launched, a spokesperson for Mikaku said: "A key focus of our expansion is the purpose-built children's play area, designed to encourage social interaction.
"Our youngsters should play together and not have their heads buried in an iPad."
With chutes, tunnels and even a ball pit, small kids are kept busy in the soft playroom that's discreet enough that even diners without children are able to enjoy their meals without having to worry about the noise.
And happy mums and dads have been taking to TikTok to share their delight at seeing children so well catered for in a high-end restaurant in the city centre.
And it's not just social media, even the reviewers on Tripadvisor have been happy to discover the play area.
One reviewer said: "Kids loved the soft play which was quite discreet such that people without kids would probably not even know it was there. We were a little unsure about there being no kids' menu however, this is the way restaurants should be for kids.
"The staff were great, recommending what the kids would probably like and they all loved it. It’s time the UK follow other European countries and offer small portions of the dishes on main menus rather than the usual burgers, Mac n cheese, hotdogs, etc. Will be back."
Another added: "We had a lovely stress-free meal, staff were great and kids loved the play area in between food! Relaxed atmosphere, good food and kids loved it."
And the restaurant is not only kid-friendly, but they also are happy to allow dogs meaning the full family can pop along for a meal.
