The cheapest way to travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh as fuel prices rise

With the cost of living rising, many will be looking at cheaper ways to travel across Scotland.

Whether it's for work, visiting friends, or shopping, many pop between Glasgow and Edinburgh and unless there's strike action - there is a wide range of services. However, some commuters have spotted a change in price in one popular mode of transport.

It is often thought that buses are cheaper than trains but when we were planning a trip to the capital, we couldn't help but notice an obvious difference in cost. Of course, depending who you book with, we have noticed that the latter can actually be the most affordable option. Costs can also be slashed if you have a Rail Card.

For fairness, we looked at the date November 14 at 10am, and return November 15 at 10am. A return ticket for Glasgow to Edinburgh with City Link via citylink.co.uk can set you back £14.50. Meanwhile an open off-peak return ticket with ScotRail is 30p cheaper at £14.20 and allows you more flexibility as to when you want to come home.

However, when we looked at Megabus, for the same dates as mentioned, you can pick up a return ticket if you book on Friday November 11 for £3.90 each way. The Megabus website says that the journey is operated by CityLink so when you're booking travel by bus, it's worth checking both sites.

The journey only takes an hour and 24 minutes by bus. Of course, these prices can change depending on demand and how close it is to the day of departure.
