The Chase viewers struck by 'truly incredible moment' amid ‘pass’

After 14 years of The Chase, one contestant's ‘pass’ also turned out to be the answer to the question. On Thursday (May 18), The Chase returned to ITV for another episode which saw four contestants, Miriam, Fintan, Ewan and Caroline, take on Chaser Mark Labbett.

But the whole studio was left in hysterics after the answer to a question happened to be ‘pass’. During Fintan’s cash builder round, host Bradley Walsh asked: “In computer security what word can go before ‘code’, ‘phrase’ and ‘word’?”

Fintan, from Northumberland, shook his head and answered: “Pass.” Bradley replied: “Correct.”

After Fintan racked up £5,000 on his cash builder, Bradley said: “It’s happened. It’s actually happened! It’s actually happened. The word pass is an answer. You jammy so-and-so.”

Viewers of the quiz show thought it was hilarious as they took to Reddit to talk about the ‘truly incredible moment’. One user wrote: “The task has failed successfully.”

A second said: “Not only was 'pass' correct, but what made this a truly incredible moment is that he didn't know and actually wanted to pass the question. I feel like the chances of both of those things happening is so low.”

A user replied: “Exactly! Contestants sometimes say 'I don't know' or 'Nope' when they don't know and wish to pass, which would have resulted in an incorrect answer.”

However, Fintan didn’t manage to beat The Beast to get into the final chase and neither did the other contestants.

The final chase meant that Caroline was nominated to go head to head with The Beast in an attempt to win £4,000 to share with the rest of the contestants but unfortunately she was caught by the Chaser.
