A Nottingham contestant was praised as she took on the Chaser on Friday's (January 20) episode of The Chase. Viewers of the ITV show were rooting for Mel as she took the stage with her guide dog, Elsa.
Mel, a health dog adviser from Nottingham, was one of the four contestants to compete in the episode. She appeared alongside Elsie from London who was the first one called by presenter long-time presenter Bradley Walsh. Ted from Royston and David from North London were also hoping to win thousands of pounds on the show.
Viewers on social media however were rooting for Mel, with one of them tweeting: "The entire country wanting Mel to win". Someone else added: "Mel and Ted deserve this (and Elsa) #TheChase."

"You better not go minus and steal money off Mel & Elsa!", another one added, while many others congratulated Mel after she took on the Chaser. "Well done Mel and Elsa, it's a long time since I've been so pleased for a contestant, and her pal!!", someone said.
As Mel took on the stage with her dog, she said she works for Guide Dog charity as a health dog adviser. She has revealed that she has sight loss.
She took on the stage accompanied by Elsa, her guide dog that she has been by her side for three years. Asked what she likes to do to switch off, she said: "I like to read, I like to sing".
It was also revealed that Mel sings in a choir. Presenter Bradley jokingly said: "You are into money today, what are you going to do with it?"
Mel answered: "Well if I win the money, I would love to go to the Arctic Circle and experience it with my husband." She went on and said: "I would love to experience it."
She answered correctly to most of the questions, raising £4,000 to go alongside her team's cash prize. She even left the Chaser impressed with her answers as he described her as a "good player".
Presenter Bradley Walsh warned Elsa of their 'no cheating' rule as Mel headed to confronting the Chaser. As she was given the prize targets during the show, Mel has chosen to go for £4,000, the option in the middle, adding: "I do not think I would dare to go for £40,000 as much as I would like to and I did not come here to go low. So I am going for the £4,000."
She gave the correct answer to the first question, which was 'Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody made a cameo appearance singing The Bear and the Maiden Fair in what TV series?'. Mel said the song was featured in Game of Thrones, however she was not confident with her answer: "I do not really know. But it sounds like a Game of Thrones sort of song."
Mel had doubts when she gave her answer to the second question as well, although it was correct. She was certain about the third answer also, before braving the Chaser's question.
"Written in his native German, which scientist so called God letter sold for £2.9 million in 2018?". Mel said she did not know the answer, before moving to another question. The Chaser added: "I think you are a very good player."
Disappointed fans took to social media with one adding: "Game over, let’s pack it in for tonight, good luck to you, Elsa and Mel. See you next week". Someone else added: "We aren't going on holiday, mum?" Awwwww poor Mel and elsa... Damn you Darragh!!!"
Unfortunately, Mel and her team walked away empty-handed. Bradley Walsh said: "You have been cool and The Chase is over." The Chase in on ITVX and ITVX player at 5pm Monday to Friday.
