The Charlatans and Primal Scream keyboardist Martin Duffy has died at 55.
The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess took to Twitter to pay tribute to his "beautiful soul".
"Another tragic loss of a beautiful soul," he wrote.
"Martin Duffy stepped in to save The Charlatans when we lost Rob - he played with us at Knebworth and was a true friend.
"He toured with me in my solo band too - he was a pleasure to spend time with. Safe travels Duffy."
Oasis star Liam Gallagher also paid tribute, tweeting: "RIP DUFFY PRIMAL SCREAM DYA KNOW WHAT I MEAN LG x."
Martin was born in Birmingham and joined the indie rock band Felt on keyboards in 1985.
He played keyboards on Primal Scream's first two albums and joined the band permanently after Felt disbanded at the end of 1989.
He also played with The Charlatans after the shock death of founding member Rob Collins in a car crash in July 1996 - just before they were set to play their biggest gig supporting Oasis at Knebworth.
Duffy played with The Charlatans at the historic gig and recorded contributing keyboard parts to the band's fifth album Tellin' Stories.
Fans rushed to share their heartbreak at the sad news.
"He lived on my street in the 90s and drank in my local boozer I sometimes used to shoot pool with Martin, genuinely a nice dude, very sad news," one fan tweeted.
"Oh no, I'm so sorry for your loss Tim, and for all his loved ones," another added.
"Also of Primal Scream (another band I absolutely love).. so saddening another musically gifted artist has passed. Thoughts with his family," a third wrote.
The Charlatans' career has spanned nearly three decades and their appeal has yet to wane with avid indie rock fans.
Tim Burgess, Mark Collins, Martin Blunt and Tony Rogers have announced that they will be embarking on an American tour next year kicking off in New York on January 30.
The Charlatans have had a long and illustrious career and the band have racked up 12 UK top 40 albums, including three number ones - Some Friendly, Charlatans and Tellin' Stories.
Hit singles include 'One To Another', 'The Only One I Know', and 'Can't Get Out Of Bed'.
