Hundreds of people across the UK are banned from running a company, according to the Insolvency Service’s Register of Disqualifications. There are just over 50 people who are based in Bristol on the list.
People can be put on the list as part of sentencing for a crime they have committed, or it can be for various business misdemeanours ranging from failing to report figures to filing for bankruptcy.
The longest amount of time an individual can be banned from operating a business is 15 years. They can be jailed for up to two years if they are found to be starting, running or marketing a business in the UK or in a connected country while banned.
