The brilliant Cardiff City v Nottingham Forest player ratings as debutant impresses and defender shines in new role

Alex Smithies 7

Had to do literally nothing in goal, which is testament to the 10 players in front of him. Was comfortable enough in possession, though.

Cody Drameh 8

He and Doyle were menaces down Cardiff's right. Did really well in the forward areas and defensively was pretty sound, too. A few errant passes crept in late on, but that's picking very minor holes.

Perry Ng 9 (star man)

The standout player. Set up the first goal and did not put a foot wrong defensively, despite playing in an unfamiliar role at right centre-back. Possibly his best Cardiff display.

Sean Morrison 7

Back in the side and it was like he'd never left. Largely composed and assured and was excellent in the air, although had one scare when he hit the deck and allowed Forest in during the second half.

Mark McGuinness 8

Popped up with some vital interceptions and sound positioning out of possession. A couple of scary moments with the ball at his feet, though.

Alfie Doughty 8

Won't come up against many better wingers than Brennan Johnson at the minute and gave as good as he got. Showed some endeavour with positive forward runs, too.

Ryan Wintle 8

Organised the midfield incredibly well and did the ugly bits that tend to go unnoticed. Broke up play nicely in the middle.

Joe Ralls 9

Continued his very positive form. Smashed one volley narrowly wide and started many positive attacks for the hosts. A top outing for the midfielder.

Tommy Doyle 8

Once again showcased his quality. His deliveries into the box are so dangerous and dovetailed well with Drameh. Looks a real find, this boy.

Max Watters 7

Worked really hard and pressed well, even forcing the odd mistake, but no clear-cut chances really fell his way. A decent performance.

Jordan Hugill 9

Announced himself with a well-taken goal just five minutes into the match. Almost had a second but was denied by Brice Samba from point-blank range. A really positive debut.

Subs

Isaak Davies (on for Watters 57) 8 - Was in the right place at the right time to tap home his first league goal. Also put in some nice crosses and made smart runs.

James Collins (on for Hugill 69) 7 - Flung himself at one cross from Ralls and put in the hard graft late on to help close the game out.

Will Vaulks (on for Ralls 81) 6 - Put himself about at the end. Produced one tackle which wasn't too clever, though.
