The Boys fans are wondering how the final season would be different if it wasn't setting up upcoming spin-off Vought Rising

With just three more episodes of The Boys season 5 to go, fans can't help but feel that a huge chunk of the final season has been dedicated to setting up the upcoming spin-off Vought Rising, and are wondering what it would look like if that were not the case.

"I’m curious as to how the whole The Boys storyline would’ve gone if they never created Vought Rising, because it’s dictating a lot of the final season and Homelander’s plot," said one fan on Twitter. Others seem to agree, with one replying, "This season felt more like a segway for Vought Rising."

Set in the '50s, Vought Rising will act as a prequel to the main show and cover the origins of Vought and its first string of Supes created with V-One: Soldier Boy, Stormfront, Private Angel, and Torpedo. It is true that there have been quite a few nods to the upcoming spin-off, such as the hunt for the original strain of Compound V known as V-One, and Soldier Boy looking back at when he was first turned into a Supe during the Second World War.

However, many fans feel that The Boys' final outing would have been the same, as it is still focusing on the ongoing battle between Homelander and Billy Butcher. V-One now plays a big part in this, with both sides now desperately trying to get their hands on the formula. "The whole point is trying to take down Homelander and Vought, of course, the original products of Vought, both Soldier Boy and Bombsight, were going to be important."

Due to V-One making them biologically immortal, some of Vought Rising's cast have already appeared in The Boys. Stormfront joined the series in season 2 but later died in season 3, followed by Soldier Boy making his entrance in season 3. Plus, thanks to The Boys season 5 episode 6 trailer, we know that we will finally meet Bombsight in the upcoming episode.

As for The Boys season 5's main plotline, Butcher's one aim is still very much to kill Homelander, but will the Seven leader use V-One to make himself immortal first? We will just have to wait and see. The Boys will conclude on May 20. Vought Rising hits Prime Video sometime in 2027
