Rebel Wolves has already sold millions of copies of its vampire RPG, "The Blood of Dawnwalker," but its next entry might look noticeably different in one key way.
The studio is now weighing whether to keep the very mechanic that made its debut game stand out in the first place.
'The Blood of Dawnwalker' Sequel May Remove This Feature
Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz told Eurogamer that a sequel to "The Blood of Dawnwalker" may not bring back the game's signature time limit. In an interview with Eurogamer, he explained that the studio has not committed either way, and that the decision will depend entirely on whether future stories actually call for it.
"We will play with it. If we will have parts of the story, or the whole story, to which it fits, then we will use it. If we will have stories where it does not fit, we will not force it," Tomaszkiewicz said.
He added that Rebel Wolves is also researching other ideas for the RPG genre, though nothing about a sequel has been confirmed beyond the studio's earlier statement that it wants Coen's story to grow into a larger saga.
Controversial Feature: Game Time Limitations
The current game gives players 30 days and nights to rescue Coen's family from the vampire lord Brencis. According to ComicBook Gaming, the countdown is only advancing when players complete quests or invest points into certain skills rather than ticking down during ordinary exploration or fights with wildlife.
Tomaszkiewicz has previously said the system was carefully tuned so players would not feel punished for exploring, aiming for a balance where the looming deadline creates urgency without becoming a source of constant stress.
The feature has still split the community since launch. A popular mod released before the game even came out strips the timer out entirely, giving players who dislike the pressure a way to explore at their own pace.
Tomaszkiewicz has acknowledged that criticism directly, saying it is fine for players to turn to that option, though he has encouraged people to experience the game with the time system intact at least once.
He has also noted that the game was balanced so that most players could complete around 80 percent of its content before the deadline arrives, and that he expects opinions on the mechanic to shift as more players actually finish the story.
What to Expect from 'The Blood of Dawnwalker' Sequel
"The Blood of Dawnwalker" launched as one of the fastest-selling games of 2026, surpassing one million copies within just three days. Rebel Wolves confirmed shortly after release that a sequel was already in early development, with plans for the series to expand into a multi-game saga following Coen's story further. Beyond that confirmation, the studio has not announced a release date, platforms, or any story details for the follow-up.
Creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz has previously said the original game was designed so most of its content remains optional, allowing players to rush toward the final confrontation with Brencis if they choose, while still supporting multiple endings depending on how much of the world they explore along the way.
Whether that same structure carries into the sequel remains unclear, especially with the time mechanic itself now up for reconsideration.
For now, Rebel Wolves appears focused on treating each entry in the saga individually, adapting mechanics like the countdown only when the story being told actually calls for that kind of urgency.
