While the drama on this year’s season of The Block has centred around overflowing budgets, unfinished rooms and the contestants sharing trades, there’s been a much bigger scandal swirling outside the reality show about one team’s relationship status.
It’s been reported since before the series even premiered that House 2’s Chantel and Wyatt had broken up. In fact, multiple sources told Daily Mail in July that the Gold Coast couple weren’t even together during filming and faked their relationship to gain exposure for their businesses.
“Their break-up was one of the worst-kept secrets on the Gold Coast,” one source told the publication. “People were talking about it well before filming started.”
The Block’s Chantel finally addresses break-up rumours
Chantel finally responded to the ongoing rumours this week and confirmed that, despite reports and increasing fan speculation, she and Wyatt haven’t ended their relationship.
“Wyatt and I are still very much together, and it’s so funny that it’s such a huge fascination. We have no desire to break up anytime soon,” she told Chattr.
“We have such a beautiful relationship. Wyatt is an amazing stepdad to my little kiddies, and they’re so obsessed with him just like I am. We really encourage each other to grow and lift each other up, which I haven’t experienced in previous relationships.”
The mum-of-three went on to say that she and Wyatt have “big plans for the future”, which include winning The Block and the life-changing prize money that comes with it.
How The Block impacted Chantel and Wyatt’s relationship
Meanwhile, Chantel and Wyatt told PEDESTRIAN.TV at this season’s launch event in July that the long-running series had a positive impact on their relationship and made them “stronger”.
“Honestly, it brought us together,” Chantel said — which could be interpreted in many different ways, considering the reports.
“Chantel’s got a lot of patience,” Wyatt joked. “We have the opposite effect, so she counters me, I can counter her, and we sort of work good. So we actually were great through the show, I think.”
Chantel added that they were a “great team” during filming, and her two biggest takeaways from the experience were that she has “a lot of patience” and she’s “really good” for Wyatt. Interesting…
