The Block Judge Spills What Went Wrong In *That* Finale & Praises One Team’s Efforts

The Block finale judge

Still thinking about The Block 2025 finale? Honestly, same. And so is one of the judges who has just given his version of events in a new interview.

Speaking to news.com.au, one of the three judges, design king Darren Palmer, explained what went on behind the scenes of the disastrous finale.

“I can tell you who definitely doesn’t have any say in the final results: The judges. If you ever want to know who’s going to win, don’t ask us, because auctions are unpredictable,” Palmer said.

He admitted he had no inkling during the season that any team’s fortunes would tank on auction day.

“No, I don’t think you can ever know that stuff,” he said.

He went on to praise winners Britt and Taz who won the season with an auction profit of $420,000, plus $100,000 prize money, taking them to $520,000.

“They played a really a long game — design decisions, colour palate were consistent across the house to deliver a consistent mood. They did all the things you would advise somebody to do if they were designing a house from scratch. I don’t think they really missed a beat.

“It was a really well considered, consistent house.”

ICYMI: This year’s The Block finale went down in history as one of the worst in the show’s run.

Just have a go at the results and see for yourself. Not only that, but contestants recently found out they’d have to wait even longer for their dollarydoos from this season. The poor results hit some teams so bad, one couple even had to sell their house.

When probed about how future contestants could avoid the same fate as this year’s contestants, he said: “A specific buyer is going to have specific desires and specific requirements. You can take a punt, but advice would be to thoroughly research what the market is, then make sure what your selling is comparable to what’s actually selling in that market”.

Palmer is the first of many people involved in the show to put their two cents in on what went wrong this year, including the show’s auctioneer, winners Britt and Taz, and even old mate Adrian Portelli.
